Eagle’s Nest Verreaux 2009

I assumed this was a Shiraz-based blend as Eagle’s Nest are legendary Shiraz makers, but a quick Google tells me that it’s actually a Bordeaux style blend (4 of the 5 with only Malbec missing). Something Shiraz based may have stood up to curry I was eating a bit more, but this was still heavy enough to fight its corner. Smooth, bold and sophisticated. James Bond wine.

  1. Cracking a bottle of this open tonight. I bought two last year at the wine farm and drank one, which I enjoyed, but don’t want to take my chances on the one that is left as maturation might have peaked.

Going with peri peri lamb ribs, which aren’t as hot as a curry, so hoping that works out.

    Fantastic. I’m very, very jealous.
