I think I’m getting spoilt now I’ve hit the sweet spot of my collection because I’m not getting my hair blown back by this beautifully aged wine. It’s absolutely fine, but lacks the pizzazz I’d expect from a nicely aged drop. Saying that, I remember my Dad loving this so different strokes for different folks.
One of my favourite South African Pinot Noirs. Smells like the southern peninsula sea air, tastes smoother than an Olympia Cafe coffee but with a bit of the southern rough that you want in a Pinot Noir.
Is it pronounced Moe Fort or May Fort? Which of the Bordeaux grapes go into this blend? Did the winemaker sell his soul at the crossroads in order to make a phenomenal wine at an incredibly generous price? I can’t answer any of those questions, but I can tell you that this is probably the […]
No idea what’s in this blend. Wasn’t available for tasting but the old man’s curiosity got the better of him. Whatever it is, it’s amazing.
Not so much a hidden gem as it’s quite widely available, but more an in full view but under appreciated rock. This vintage is a bit on the green side, but still well worth glugging down on a Saturday afternoon (coincidentally).
One of the best kept secrets of the south. Go to the winery next door and pay more than twice as much for (to my limited palette) the same wine or get this and be smug. If you want it to taste as good as this bottle, you have to persuade one of the the […]
Not a big fan of oaky Chardonnays done wrong, but this one is done right. It’s big, brash and loud, but everyone loves a showman. Typical buttery full bodied business.
This was a gift from a close friend so it’s winning before I even drink a drop. Fortunately it also tastes good after a pumpkin ale, because that’s how it’s going down. Fresh crisp and as refreshing as the dip I just had in the Breede River.
Opened this with my wife to mark our wedding anniversary. By a lucky coincidence it’s the same age as my marriage. It’s pleasant, gentle and soothing, but you expect more from 8 years. By a slightly less lucky coincidence that’s exactly what my wife said!
