My wife and I used to go to the Stellenbosch wine and cheese festival religiously. One year we ended up with a bottle of Deetlefs Pinotage in the selection we found at home when we woke up the morning afterwards. We loved it then, still love it now and drop by the wine farm whenever […]
Sumaridge Pinotage 2015
The lockdown inflicted burn through my wine collection continues with this big fruity Pinotage. The list of wine farms I’m heading to on my 5 year pilgrimage when lockdown ends just increased by 1. Can’t say I remember drinking much Pinotage when we drank our way through the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, which makes this even more […]
Rhebokskloof Pinotage 2016
Nice prune flavours. So much so that I might use it to wash down an Imodium or two. Tannins as soft as the toilet paper you’ll need it those prunes are for real.
Rijk’s Reserve Pinotage 2014
Giving me wine like this is like introducing Neanderthal man to a microwave before he’s discovered fire. It’s amazing. It does things I can’t fathom and I’m just not capable of explaining how or why. Perfect ten. You could beat me with an empty bottle of this and I’d still love it.
Spier 21 Gables Pinotage 2014
Better than the success of getting the back garden fencing sorted, buying brake pads and spark plugs and running a Sunday morning 10km all in the same weekend. Oh and it tastes like cherries and goes well with reheated Saturday dinner because it’s Sunday and you’re lazy.
Spier Signature Pinotage 2018
If this wine was a footballer it would be John Stones. Light, elegant, capable of dazzling you, but not quite as light, elegant and dazzling as whatever the pinotage version of Virgil Van Dijk is (a Rijks maybe, Virgil Van Rijk anyone?).
Dornier Pinotage 2015
The beautiful soft tannins of this wine are even further enhanced by the fact I was invited an amazing wine and food pairing event at Dornier two weeks ago. The fact my sons have lost my copy of FIFA 18 may cause me to open a second bottle.
Dornier Pinotage 2014
Another year, another Dornier Pinotage (from four years ago). Soft, but meaningful, which means it shares 50% of its character traits with England’s current batting lineup.
L’Avenir Pinotage 2015
Solid performer. Stats may have been enhanced as a result of being in this month’s 20% off Pick & Pay Wine Club selection.
